God wanted to be with us

Much has happened since I last wrote.  God brought my husband into my life.  We dated/courted, got engaged and were happily married this past May.  I'm so very thankful for my husband.  It is a joy to share life with another.  Perhaps I will write more on this later.
This Christmas I have been listening to songs reminding me of the fact that God came down as a baby.  He decided to literally step down onto our level and be with us.  In the squalor of humanity God became a man.  He came into our mess.  He got to see first hand the conflicts, the selfishness, the cold-hearted acts, the unlovely, and yet He still chose to love.  What an amazing choice He made.  I have been working a retail job this holiday season.  Overall the job has been going well but I have gotten several opportunities to see the self-centered focus of us humans.  We are full of our own desires for pleasure and material abundance.  If one could take just a brief survey of the hearts of people and of my own heart apart from Christ, there is no rational reason God would want to love and be near us.  We are hard to love and not to be desired.  But God chose to give his own very dear Son for us.  This blows me away.
As I try to wrap my head around this first I'm speechless.  Then my next response is to thank God.  Thank you God for loving us when we absolutely didn't deserve it.
